Course 2 - Designing Authentic Science Learning Experiences
Course Description
How can you design authentic science learning experiences that will engage your students, get them to apply and extend their learning and build important skills? This module will explore how we can design experiences that do all of this. We will also investigate how technology can support you in designing these science experiences. First-year Corps Members are the target learners for this course.

By taking this course, teachers will develop the following:
Knowledge
- Teachers know what an authentic science learning experience is.
- Teachers know the steps to designing an authentic science learning experience.
- Teachers know of the technology tools that they can use to support the design of the experience.
Skills:
-Learn how to identify clear and testable questions and define the information needed in order to answer these questions, as well as simple, reproducible experimental methods to collect this data.
-Learn how to predict the types of results the students will get and what kind of variability in data one might see in their data.
-Learn how to establish how their students will use experimental data and how they will present their results and findings.
-Learn how to use technology to design resources for students that will prepare them for the experiment and allow them to run it more independently.
Mindset:
-Understand the purpose and importance of authentic science learning experiences in the classroom.
-Understand the importance of design in the success of authentic science learning experiences.
