Chemistry Content Immersion: The Mole
An understanding of the mole concept is crucial to avoiding common misconceptions and mistakes in stoichiometric calculations. This self-paced pre-cycle module will cover common categories of teacher misconception of the mole concept and strategies for effective instruction through language and representational choices.
By taking this course, teachers will develop the following:
- Teachers will be knowledgeable of key facets of student understanding of the mole concept.
- Teachers will experience several possible instructional activities to support student learning of the mole concept and stoichiometry.
- Teachers will be able to identify key facets of student understanding of the mole concept, and infer gaps in understanding when viewing incorrect student responses.
- Teachers believe that all students deserve the right to develop a deep understanding of science as a way of knowing, become both confident consumers and producers of scientific knowledge, and develop agency to drive improvements in the local and global community through the application of science and technology.
