Course 1 - Back to School: CHemistry
Course Description
How do you prepare to have a strong fall semester teaching chemistry? In this module, we will explore the different elements of preparing to start your year off strong. Examples of these elements include planning the chemistry curriculum for the first semester, organizing the chemistry classroom, and getting to know students and their academic needs. First-year Corps Members are the target learners for this course.

By taking this course, teachers will develop the following:
Knowledge:
-Teachers know what content is included in the fall chemistry curriculum at their school.
-Teachers can identify what aspects of the classroom are important to organize.
-Teachers know methods to build relationships with students and parents and identify students' academic needs.
-Teachers know classroom management and culture strategies to introduce in the First Two Weeks.
-Teachers know methods to build authentic relationships with their teaching colleagues.
Skills:
-Learn how to plan the first semester of chemistry content.
-Learn how to organize your chemistry classroom and plan for the supplies needed for the semester.
-Learn how to establish communication with families and begin to understand and get to know your students and their academic needs.
-Learn how to work with other teachers and establish effective and authentic relationships with them.
Mindset:
-Understand the importance of planning the fall chemistry curriculum before the school year starts.
-Recognize the importance of organizing their science classroom to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
-Know how important it is to start getting to know students, families and student's academic needs during the First Two Weeks of school.
